Have you ever wondered why some things glow under a black light? This fascinating phenomenon is called fluorescence, and it's like nature's own secret light show! Our UV device allows us to see this amazing effect in action.
Imagine you're at a glow-in-the-dark party. The black light (which is actually UV light) is invisible to our eyes, but when it hits certain materials, they absorb this energy and then re-emit it as visible light. That's why your white t-shirt or highlighter pen glows so brightly!
Science in Action: Different samples glowing under UV light, each color representing unique molecular structures that absorb and re-emit light at specific wavelengths.
In our lab, we use this principle to:
Fun Fact: Many marine organisms, like jellyfish, use fluorescence naturally. The green fluorescent protein (GFP) from jellyfish has revolutionized biology by helping scientists track and study genes and proteins in living cells!
